Accustomed to as "Bird of the Year" a rare and threatened (Bonelli's Eagle in 2005, Alondra Ricotí in 2006, storm petrel Pato Colorado in 2007 or in 2008) could perhaps involve some surprise to see how a small passerine (bird) was elected in 2009. On November 16, 2009 we found a Giant Kingfisher American (first cited in the south of Europe) at the mouth of the Rambla del Albujón. Subsequently, and after three days of continuous presence in the area, began to be very irregular until December 6, when it disappears.

After searching for other places, Nuno Miguel Ángel Muñoz, turned it to locate in an area near the town of Albujón, a few miles and a half, two irrigation ponds in close proximity and adjacent to the Diversion Channel. The site, located 1.2 km from the channel of the Rambla del Albujón, is surrounded by irrigated crops (citrus and vegetables), as a mosaic, occupies the entire area.
